The Classic Vietnam Tour

Price: from £2,245 Per Person (Based on Two Persons Sharing Twin/Double Room) including international flights from UK.

Day 1: UK to Hanoi

Depart London Heathrow or your regional airport on a flight to Hanoi.

Day 2: Hanoi

Arrive in Hanoi! You are then transferred to May de Ville Hotel or a similar option. The rest of the day is free.

Day 3: Hanoi

A city tour of Hanoi. This includes Ho Chi Minh's mausoleum, his stilt house in the grounds of the presidential palace, and the One Pillar Pagoda. Then visit the Temple of Literature, the West Lake, the Tran Quoc Pagoda (one of the oldest in Vietnam), Quan Thanh Temple, and the impressive Museum of Ethnology, which records the lives and cultures of Vietnam's ethnic minorities. A visit to the Sword Lake and Ngoc Son Temple is followed by a one hour cycle ride around the Old Quarter. In the evening, enjoy a traditional water puppet show. (B, L)

Day 4: Halong Bay

After breakfast, travel to Halong Bay (about a three-hour drive). On arrival, board your traditional-style junk before starting your cruise around the spectacular Halong Bay. It has a myriad of beautiful islands. You’ll then have a seafood dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 5: Halong Bay to Hue

Continue your cruise, and enjoy a leisurely brunch before returning to the dock. You then transfer to Hanoi Airport for your flight to Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam from 1802 to 1945. You can then transfer to Midtown Hue Hotel or similar. (B, L)

Day 6: Hue

Take a boat trip on the Perfume River to visit Thien My Pagoda. Then visit the Imperial Citadel, the former imperial palace of Vietnam's rulers, and the lavish mausoleums of Tu Duc and Khai Dinh. End the day with a stroll around the Dong Ba Market, a lively central market selling a wide range of goods. (B, L)

Day 7: Hue to Hoi An

Depart Hue for Hoi An, crossing the Hai Van Pass which includes a stop at the picturesque fishing village of Lang Co. On-route, you’ll visit the Cham Museum at Danang, and the Marble Mountain. After lunch, take a walking tour of Hoi An, an ancient town, once one of Asia's major ports. Visit the Japanese Covered Bridge, Phuc Kien Temple, the old merchants' houses, and the colourful market. You’ll stay at Vinh Hung Riverside Resort or similar. (B, L)

Day 8: Hoi An

An excursion to My Son. This was once the administrative and religious centre of the Champa Kingdom which flourished between the 4th and 15th centuries. View the impressive brick towers that dominate the site. Return to Hoi An after lunch for a free afternoon. (B, L)

Day 9: Danang to Saigon

Transfer to Danang Airport for a flight to Ho Chi Minh City or Saigon. Visit the Reunification Palace, the former presidential palace of South Vietnam, the War Renmants Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, the General Post Office, and Ben Thanh market. This includes a dinner cruise on the Saigon River. You’ll stay at the Golden Central Hotel or similar. (B, L. D)

Day 10: Saigon

Enjoy an excursion into the countryside to see the Cu Chi tunnels. These are part of the network of tunnels built by the Vietnamese guerrilla fighters during the Vietnam war to shelter from US attacks. You then have the afternoon free. (B)

Day 11: Mekong Delta/Can Tho

An excursion to the Mekong Delta. Travel by road to Ben Tre where you join a local ferry to cross the Mekong River. You’ll visit mid-river islands, where you can explore orchards and fields and experience the life of local people. Then take a small sampan boat to cruise small canals lined with water coconuts. Travel onward to Can Tho, the main town in the delta, for an overnight stay. (B, L)

Day 12: Can Tho to Saigon

In the morning, board a boat and journey through the picturesque waterways. Visit the Cang Rai flowing market, one of the largest in the delta region where locals bring their produce for sale. In the afternoon, you can drive back to Saigon for an overnight stay. (B, L)

Day 13: Saigon to UK

Transfer to an airport for flights back to the UK. You’ll arrive later the same day or early the following morning depending on the airline. (B)
