Japan Enchantment takes you on a special travelling experience through Japan's feudal past. This 14-day classic tour of Japan covers Tokyo and Kyoto, with an exploration of Takayama, Shirakawago, and Kanazawa, plus Hiroshima.

Day 1: Tokyo

Depart London or regional airport for your flight to Tokyo

Day 2: Tokyo

Arrive in Tokyo and meet with one of our representatives. Guided to the correct bus, you travel to your hotel and have the rest of the day free.

Day 3: Tokyo

This morning tour of Tokyo includes the Tokyo Tower Observatory, Imperial Palace East Garden, and the Meiji Shrine. It then finishes in the vibrant Ginza shopping district. You can then relax in the free afternoon or explore further on your own.

Day 4: Tokyo

A free day in the glorious city of Tokyo!

Day 5: Tokyo to hakone

Travel to the iconic Mt Fuji by coach, ascending about half way up the mountain. Your heavy luggage will be transported to Takayama, so take an overnight bag for your stay in Hakone. After a Japanese-style lunch, proceed to the Hakone National Park where you will take a boat cruise on Lake Ashi, and ride in a cable car to see the splendid views. At the end of the tour transfer to your hotel to njoy a traditional 'onsen' or hot spring bath. (L)

Day 6: Hakone to Takayama

Transfer to Odawara railway station for a bullet train to Nagoya. Then transfer to bus for the journey to Takayama, in the 'Japanese Alps'. This ancient city is often known as 'Little Kyoto', with streets of old-style wooden houses. An afternoon walking tour includes the Kusakabe Folkcraft museum, formerly the residence of powerful merchants, and the Yatai Kaikan Hall where the colourful floats for the city's twice yearly festival are held. This trip also includes Kami-Sannomachi town, with its streets of well-preserved old houses, sake breweries, courtyards and shops.

Day 7: Takayama to Kanawaza

Visit Takayama's colourful morning market before travelling alongside Lake Miboro and the Shokawa River to the World Heritage site of Shirakawago, with its unique 'gassho-zukuri' farmhouses with steep grass-roofed houses designed to shed snow during the winters in this mountainous region. The journey continues in the afternoon to Kanawaza. Your heavy luggage will be transported to Kyoto to await your arrival there. (L)

Day 8: Kanazawa to Kyoto

Enjoy this morning sightseeing tour of Kanazawa, visiting the classic Kenroku-en Garden - one of the most beautiful in Japan - and driving through the Higashi-chaya District. In the afternoon, board an express train to Kyoto. Walk to your nearby hotel.

Day 9: Kyoto

This day includes a morning sightseeing tour of Kyoto, including the Golden Pavilion, Nijo Castle, and the Kyoto Imperial Palace. In the afternoon, travel to Nara to visit the Todaiji Temple, housing Japan's largest bronze image of the Buddha, Deer Park, and the Kasuga shrine with its 3,000 stone and bronze lanterns. (L)

Day 10: Kyoto

This free day in Kyoto allows you to explore its many temples, gardens, old streets, and craft workshops.

Day 11: Kyoto to hiroshima

Morning free in Kyoto before taking a bullet train to Hiroshima. Walk to your hotel near to the station. Your heavy luggage travels to Osaka so take an overnight bag for your stay in Hiroshima.

Day 12: Kyoto to hiroshima

Full day tour to Hiroshima and nearby Miyajima Island. First visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and museum, and the Atomic Bomb Dome. Then take the ferry to Miyajima Island to visit the beautiful Itsukushima Shrine and the iconic "floating" red torii gate.

Day 13: hiroshima to osaka

Morning bullet train to Osaka. Walk to your hotel near to the station. Rest of the day free for you to explore Osaka on your own. Must-see sights include Osaka Castle and the vibrant Dotonbori district with its neon light displays and lively bars and restaurants.

Day 14: Exit

You are transferred to Kyoto Kansai Airport by airport bus. You then travel back to the UK.
