Day 1: UK to beijing

Today depart London Heathrow or your regional airport for your flight to Beijing. 

Day 2: beijing

Arrive in Beijing. Met on arrival and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day free.

Day 3: Beijing

Today join a seat-in-coach day tour to see Tiananmen Square followed by the Forbidden City - the huge palace complex that was the home of China's emperors for five centuries. After lunch visit the Temple of Heaven and the beautiful Summer Palace (B, L)

Day 4: beijing

After breakfast join a seat-in-coach tour to the famous Great Wall at Badaling and the tombs of the Ming emperors. (B, L)

Day 5: Beijing to Xi'an

In the morning catch the high-speed train to Xi'an (about 5- to 6-hour journey). You will be met by your local guide and then travel with them on the metro to your hotel. In the afternoon take a walking tour along Xi'an's impressive city wall, built in medieval times. Then enjoy leisure time in the narrow streets of the atmospheric Muslim Quarter. (B, L)

Day 6: xi'an

Full day seat-in-coach tour to the famous Terracotta Army, the life-size clay warriors created for the tomb of China's first emperor and today one of the wonders of the world. (B, L)

Day 7: xi'an to Chengdu

After breakfast, take the metro, accompanied by your guide, to the railway station for the high-speed train to Chengdu (about 3-hour journey). On arrival you will be greeted by a guide and taken to your hotel. Then visit the Panda Research Base on the outskirts of Chengdu, where there are many pandas and where there is a breeding programme. Return to city to visit Jinli Street, a busy traditional trading street. Continue to the People's Park to enjoy leisure time at a local teahouse. (B, L)

Day 8: Leshan

Excursion to the city of Leshan to visit the "dafo" or Giant Buddha - a huge statue carved out of a cliff overlooking the Min River in the 8th century AD. On your return journey to Chengdu stop at the old town of Huanglongxi, with its wooden houses and cobbled streets. (B, L)

Day 9: Chengdu to Chongqing

Transfer to railway station for high-speed train to Chongqing (about 1.5 hour journey). Met on arrival and accompanied visit to Erling Park, General Stilwell's museum commemoration American involvement in supporting China during World War 2, and Ciqikou ancient town with its traditional buildings and streets in the suburbs of Chongqing. (B, L)

Day 10: Chongqing to UK

Transfer to airport for flight to London or regional airports, arriving later the same day. (B)
